PathBreak Coaching & Consulting LLC: Brand Story
At PathBreak Coaching & Consulting, our mission is to empower people of color to break cycles of generational trauma and forge their own paths toward healing and self-discovery. My story—rooted in resilience, transformation, and the power of community—is the foundation of this work.
The Beginning: A Red Cloth and a Lesson in Love
From the ages of two to four, my life was shaped by both love and adversity. During this time, I was primarily raised by my grandmother, uncle, and older siblings while my mother was away. Despite the challenges, I was showered with love and protected by the strength of my family. Before my mother left, she gave me a red cloth to place under my pillow, offering protection against negative energies, misfortune, and evil spirits. This symbol of comfort and hope became something I clung to during some of the hardest years of my early life.
When my mother returned, she had transformed her life and went on to help others in profound ways. She became a correctional counselor, facilitating substance abuse groups for inmates. Watching her journey of change taught me one of the most profound lessons of my life: people can change when given the right tools and support.
Inspiration: From Harlem’s Streets to a Calling
Growing up in East Harlem, I saw the struggles of addiction, poverty, and systemic challenges firsthand. Yet, I also witnessed the power of transformation. My mother’s work introduced me to the life-changing impact of counseling. When we’d run into her former clients, I saw how grateful they were, often sharing stories of their progress. These moments inspired me to pursue psychology, recognizing the challenging yet rewarding nature of helping others heal and grow.
Passion for Intervening Early
Through my years of working with families in the child welfare system, I saw first hand how trauma was passed down from one generation to the next. I became passionate about helping individuals break cycles of trauma to change their family's legacy, making me realize that actually I felt the most impact by either working directly with parents or helping children, adolescents, and adults think through their problems from a multi generational lens. I firmly believe that the earlier we intervene and provide tools for healing, the greater the potential for lifelong change. Supporting families as they navigate complex dynamics and helping young adults understand and address attachment wounds are key aspects of my work.
From witnessing my mother’s transformation to seeing the struggles of those in my community, I’ve dedicated my career to creating a ripple effect of healing and empowerment. I hold the belief that as humans, we do the best we can with the knowledge and skills we have. My role is to help others expand their toolbox, equipping them with strategies to navigate life’s challenges and embrace their full potential.
